Hey peeps. A press release will be coming out soon but I wanted to give you guys the heads up. Though it is not a epic 6000 km push across a country it still is going to be a good one.

The Route: Asheville, North Carolina to Huntersville (Charlotte) to Raleigh (state capital) to Wilmington (Wrightsville Beach). Though it is not a true border to border crossing of the state the zig zag pattern (not associated with the wheels of the same name...lol) of the route will create a distance of approximately 500 miles when it is all said and done because of the various cities that will be added as stops. Asheville is the starting location because it has one of the locations of the programs for the Cause for which I will be skating.

The Cause: http://www.hindsfeetfarm.org is an amazing organization that is changing the quality of life of people with acquired or traumatic brain injury. In 1981 I was hit by a car while training for a bicycle race in my hometown of Concord, NC and driven into a tree and a telephone pole. I suffered a severe skull fracture and variety of other injuries (can you say "Helmets were not cool in 1981"?) resulting a brain injury that basically disabled the functions of my right ear. I have been completely deaf in that ear ever since. I am very fortunate however that I did not have other issues (debateable amongst my family) but brain injury has been something in my consciousness for a long time. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to help them plant more programs in other cities.

The Push: I will be the solo skater but we will have a support vehicle involved that will have information about Hinds Feet Farm, brain injury, helmet safety, and other resources. The support vehicle will also double as a "mobile office" for me because during certain times of the day I will have to work.

Wonderful stuff. Good on ya!

My uncle and aunty just moved back to the UK from NC, such a a pity as I know Joseph, their son (pinkjellybean on here) would have loved to skate with you for part of the way.

Good luck Marion! This all sounds awesome. I know you wanted the epic mission of a lifetime, but treat this as awesome first trip to iron out the crinkles. My trip was about 550 miles and it was enough to teach me all the things I REALLY need to worry about for the next one!

Thanks. That is the way I am treating it. It will be my first multiday trip past 2 so that ill be cool and the challenges that this 500 miles is going to pose especially as it relates to the terrain of North Carolina should be more than a challenge.

The cross country relay will happen....just not this year.

I am also beginning to think I may be the oldest long distance skateboarder on the planet...ha ha.

How young are you, sir?

...age seems irrelevant. Stoke seems to be the driving force. I'm the oldest distance nerd where I live, but it's really exciting watching the youth contingent get excited about it. Never to old to push, yo.
