Hi, anyone here have any experience of 'original' trucks? Do they help lower the deck for pushing?
Cheers.

Hi Joseph!

I don't think Original trucks are much good for making things lower...they all seem to come with a half inch riser before you even get to the truck itself, which makes them really tall!

You can certainly do the whole 'double drop' thing with Holeys - ie put rail risers (1/4 inch or 1/2 inch) underneath the baseplate on the top of the drop through hole on your deck, and slide the hangar up into its pivot cup from underneath the drop through hole....but I don't think Originals work like that. I could be very very wrong!

Iv had a couple of goes on an uber (8ft topmount) longboard with originals (as I think has laura, do you remember the guy from dorney laura?), it had unusual feeling handling with a bit of a well 'spring' back to centre. Im not 100% certain but I doubt its a very easy truck to drop-thru... :?

Thanks for the advise, I was thinking more of using them on the G-Bomb system...probably no need to use risers?

Hmmm on the G - bomb - don't think I've ever seen any on one before so again I'm useless. Always worth a try but I understand your situation out on the Islands - you gotta buy before you try! Might be good fun! On a Gbomb system you have a bit more flexibility in height - I thought you meant it was for a drop thru deck...

A GBomb with Original trucks would be the craziest ride in town!

Yup....and here is the result of buying and trying....

Gbomb deck 7mm higher with Original trucks (compared with Holeys)...poo!

They were a big faff to fit, the curve of the binding contacting with hardware on the truck, I even had to cut away bits of the 17mm riser and still a bad fit. It all works but only just.

I've gone back to Holeys and will fit the binding system on the topside of the deck to get a little lower.

This was an expensive experiment!!! I wont be telling Chrissie.

One interesting thing, when the rear binding was fully dewedged the rear truck flexed fully with zero steering action, all wheels in full ground contact. Is this a useful thing for pumping perhaps? The trucks also increased wheelbase by around 100mm.

If your looking for a lower truck try 42 deg Randal base plates. Im not sure if they fit Holey hangers. But they fit Randal hangers. I stick with Randal trucks cos there so versatile with all the hanger and plate options available, not to mention all the different bushing they take. I picked up a set off brand new 42deg 180s for 29.99 of ebay tuther week, which was nice.

yeah they are low. a few mm lower than holeys. Their main drawback in terms of getting a deck lower still is their hangar design. It means you are unable to raise the lowered trucks on rails of any kind without the hangar biting on even the smallest turn.

The main reason that holeys are used by more and more distance skaters is that you can lower the deck by adding rails and that their hangar design means no or very limited hangar bite even on full lock.
the sabres seem to be of a similar design. i hope they are.

on antother note entirely ive heard that the 42 randals are pretty lifeless on drop throughs. not tried them but thats what ive heard. still waiting to hear what the sabres are like drop through.

Sorry to hear your experiment didn't go well Joseph - are the Originals still in a good enough condition to perhaps sell on a Lush forum if you have no use for them? But trying new stuff is good, because then it progresses things!

I'm excited about trying the Sabres. Apart from Holeys, I've not seen a truck with that much dropping potential.
