Lazy Boys Long distance trip round the south east
WOO! I had a lot of fun at B2B2B. It was fairly easy as well... So much so that I've started thinking about a real long distance trip over several days. Nothing too mental as I'm really just starting out at this Long Distance thing, but something that will take some effort.
I and my work collegue Mark (Who was on B2B2B as well) are thinking of beginning at Brighton and working our way round the SE coast until we hit Whitstable, at which point we will turn ourselves inland and head home to Canterbury. The theory is that there shouldn't be too many hills as it's coastal, a lot of which has nice promenade to cruise along. Work says they'll give us a couple of extra days holiday in exchange for a bit of publicity their way and we can raise a big fat wad of cash for Alzheimers which a few of my relatives have.
The trip length is looking at about 150 miles, which we would plan to do over 4 days (Friday - Monday). Here's the lazy part: To keep ourselves fresh, light on gear and ready for action, we will stay in Hostels at the lovely coastal towns we come across. This way we can leave all the camping gear, but still not have to have a support van and keep the trip fairly cheap.
What do you guys think? Any tips? Anyone want to come along?

hahaha i knew it! Good effort boys and girls! Another convert!
Gav, what you are planning sounds sweet! I wouldn't say that the route you are planning will be flat (beachy head!) but it will be fun. Especially if you are lazy boying it!
I'll look on mapmyrun and see what the terrian is like in terms of hills.
Sounds like a wicked plan and we'd love to be involved. personally i'd like to do the bit from brighton onwards and could probably get a bit of a send off from the pig city slalomers on the friday.

I almost posted the same thing up... Is there a coastal path that is skateable? Not along the bottom of Beachy Head I know but between say Eastbourne and Dover?

Re: Lazy Boys Long distance trip round the south east
righto, bit quiet at work! Day 1 Brighton to Bexhill/Hastings? a loong slog uphill for the 1st 20 or so miles up the downhill course to the top of beachy head. Then uber steep bit before a really lovely wide smooth downhill for a few miles through eastbourne itself. (i skated into town from the top when i was racing at eastbourne) here's the altitude reading and the link to a possible route for day 1 http://www.mapmyrun.com/route/united-kingdom/brighton-to-hastings/925124446991860507tadaa!

Heyyy that's what I was going for! Good call on the map my run, that altitude reader looks rather useful! So yeah, first bit is a little harsh, but at least we'll have fresh legs... Looks great to me! woo long distance! I guess if we get tired can always walk up the DH course then skate the other side

Yeah man! I had a peek at that too! Looks like the beginning will be the hardest bit which is good cos we'll still have fresh(ish) legs. Dover could be a bit hairy though, but I'm sure we can barrel through.
It's ON! Wooo!
I'll have to use my lovely network of longboarders at longboard-sessions.co.uk to see if we can get some people out to join us for a leg or two. I imagine the thanet Dogtown crew will be up for coming out for a cruise once we get to Margate/Ramsgate

OMG... This is sooo weird i was saying to my mates after B3.. That we should skate the coast or something.. And today i find this... :O You got any dates in mind? I think there would be a few of us from Oxfordshire interested in this skate. Ill see how many would do it.. and write back here. The hills.. :S Not so good with bombing it down hills.. but im sure we will get over that..

We're going for the weekend either before or after the 10th September. As far as hills, it's the UP hills I'm worried about, not the down hahahah!
